Buglife Cymru is seeking to appoint a part-time (4 days per week) Conservation Assistant to support delivery of our Coal Spoil Connections project. This is a Buglife led partnership project that aims to better understand the value of coal spoil sites for biodiversity by building upon existing habitat and species data, and increase awareness of the value of coal spoil sites by engaging members of the public and decision makers.

The Conservation Assistant will have a unique opportunity to gain confidence and a variety of skills including: field survey and recording techniques; site assessments; species identification and ecology across a range of taxa (incl. invertebrates, flora, fungi); giving presentations; leading community events; and communications. We operate a hybrid working policy, offering a mix of office and home based working. You will also undertake regular site visits and meetings with Buglife staff, project partners and local communities. A flexible approach to the working pattern will be considered for the successful candidate.

Buglife’s aim is to halt the extinction of invertebrate species and to achieve sustainable populations of invertebrates. We are working hard to achieve this through: Promoting the environmental importance of invertebrates and raising awareness about the challenges to their survival. Assisting in the development of legislation and policy that will ensure the conservation of invertebrates. Developing and disseminating knowledge about how to conserve invertebrates. Encouraging and supporting invertebrate conservation initiatives by other organisations in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Undertaking practical conservation projects that will contribute to achieving our aim.

Buglife offer a benefits package including, Enhanced Pension, Flexible Working, 23 days annual leave (pro rata – rising to 28 days pro-rata after 3 years service) in addition to winter close between Christmas and New Year.
